Is there anything you wish you knew before coming to Fort Rucker?
It’s important to note that I was just an army GIRLFRIEND at the time, so I didn’t actually move to Fort Rucker until we were about to PCS and I was officially an army wife! I did however spend a LOT of time at Fort Rucker and can speak on the area from that perspective. I lived in Florida while my now husband and I dated and we would take turns with who visited who. We went to the beach most weekends since it has a lot more to offer than Enterprise, Alabama. For a while during my husband’s time at Rucker, he wasn’t allowed to leave the 50 mile radius due to the pandemic, so we actually did spend a good amount of time in Enterprise and made the best of it! Before coming to Rucker I would suggest looking at the area of Dothan if you want more opportunities in a bigger city and are willing to commute as a service member about 20-30 minutes to base. It’s a whole different feel in Dothan! Make the drive to the beach every weekend you can, it is SO worth it. It’s about 1 hour 45 minutes to some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. (30A, Santa Rosa Beach)
what did you think right off the bat when you moved to Fort Rucker?
At first you will definitely see how small of a town Enterprise is- it’s definitely a military town. I thought it was small with not much to do, until I broadened my horizons and found other areas to explore like Dothan and going down to Florida.
What is the weather like in Enterprise?
It is typical weather for the south- long hot summers and short winters that really aren’t that cold. It can get pretty hot and humid in the summer. Some people complain about the bugs, but I didn’t notice them as I grew up in Kansas where the weather was similar.

Do you have any date night recommendations for other milsos?
If you want to stay in Enterprise, the best place by far for date night is Corks & Cattle. This is in downtown Enterprise and we went there for a few special occasions! If you are venturing to Florida for a date night or special occasion which I highly recommend, these are my top 3 places in 30A for date nights. I could go on and on about the 30A area because I lived there for 2 years, so stay tuned for my blog post all about the area soon!
The Bay on 30A -I recommend their sushi rolls and their Frose drink! (Florida)
Pescado- this is FANCY and expensive but SO worth it. Go to the rooftop for an incredible view and high class food/drinks. I recommend the scallops & the cheese board. (Florida)
Blue Mabel- This is my favorite brunch place in the WORLD! They have the best brunch options, the friendliest staff, and $10 bottomless mimosas on Sundays. We went here a lot! (Florida)
what is the best place for a cup of coffee?
Check out my Fort Rucker coffee guide post here for a full guide! Let me know in the comments if you’d like a guide for coffee in 30A Florida!
Any other restaurants we should know about?
Mellow Mushroom is some of the best pizza you will ever have! We ordered BBQ chicken pizza for takeout and paired it with wine on many occasions for an awesome little at home date night!
Add it to the Bucket List
What should a milso add to their Fort Rucker bucket list?
Corks and Cattle date night
30A Florida as much as possible!
Crab Island- rent a boat with friends and go to Crab Island for the day
John Henderson Family Park for walks
Are there any surrounding big cities you took weekend trips to?
30A Florida, almost every weekend when we were allowed to! This is a highway of beach towns from Destin Florida to Panama City Beach.
