Is there anything you wish you knew before heading to Carlisle Barracks?

Point of Rocks Park

I wish I would’ve been more open to traveling to different places around there, the area is beautiful. Definitely hiking and camping more.

What is your least favorite and favorite thing about Carlisle Barracks?

Favorite: small, quaint, civilian-feel. Least favorite: not a lot of people there so it can be hard to make friends

What is the weather like in Pennsylvania?

Great! Not too humid or dry, it has all 4 seasons.

What should a newcomer know about the installation itself?

This instillation is TINY and very historic. It’s a hidden gem. It’s very slow pace, the scenery is BREATHTAKING. The commissary and PX are very small but luckily there’s a Walmart and Target not far from post.

Where is your favorite place to grab a coffee?

  • Denim Coffee: located downtown Carlisle go, quaint, and the lattes of course.

  • Tomato Pie Cafe in Harrisburg = AMAZING. The sugar and spice latte is to die for.

Do you have any date night recommendations for other milsos?

Cork and Fork, The Cider Bar, The Melting Pot

Are there any other restaurants you recommend?

Mom and Pop cafe: Fayes Country Kitchen or the Sunrise Cafe, both located downtown Carlisle.

What should a milso add to their Carlisle bucket list?

  1. Hershey Hotel, Garden and Spa: the garden is beautiful and also has a butterfly atrium. The hotel and spa have great services and the views are amazing.

  2. Gettysburg: very historical and interesting to learn about the history that took place there.

  3. Lancaster: Amish Country! Kitchen Kettle Village: an Amish village with coffee, shopping, and treats.

  4. Hershey Park Stadium: where they host many concerts Vineyards/Wine tours: Pennsylvania is known for their many vineyards!

Are there any surrounding big cities you took weekend trips to?

  • Baltimore, MD: 2 hour drive.

  • New York City: 3 hour drive.

  • Washington DC: 2 hour drive.

  • Philadelphia and Pittsburg: both about a 2 hour drive. Bethesda, Maryland: close to DC!

What are some ideas for people with kiddos or families?

Gettysburg

Definitely visit Hershey Park, and Pocono Mountain Resort, The Coliseum, Medieval Times

Other Recommendations

  • For women's health I saw Joan Bennet at Kenner (on post) and was very pleased. I went in to seek a pelvic floor referall and an early mammogram appointment and she listened to my concerns and wrote referrals for both.

  • For pediatrics we saw Dr. Tan at Kenner as well and were very pleased.

  • Gym- Two Roads CrossFit (an amazing CF gym)

  • Random- Get an EZ pass for all of the tollways!
