안녕하세요! (annyeonghaseyo!) or… HELLO in Korean! If you are heading to Camp Humphreys in South Korea (or Camp Walker, Camp Casey, K16, Osan AirBase)- this snapshot will give you some ideas of things you can expect when stationed there, the best places to travel while in Asia, and so many things to look forward to! Take a deep breath, you just found the ULTIMATE resource for navigating this exciting OCONUS PCS! If you have questions about this duty station after reading through, Taylor is your girl! Essential Info

What is something you wish you would have known before PCSing to Korea?

I wish we would have pushed ourselves to travel more than we did at first, especially since 7 months in everything got shut down and we had the freedom to travel around Korea totally taken away from us. I think planning 2 trips a month whether they are day trips or overnight trips would have been a great goal. We were only there for 1 year so if you are there for 2 years I think a great goal would be 1 trip a month. I also wish I would have gotten into K Beauty sooner. Everything is SO cheap here! I got a lash lift for $40, a hydro-facial for $25, and you can do so many different treatments here for a fraction of the price. Look into it!

What did you think when you first got orders to Korea? Did your perspective change?

Ginko Tree Road in Asan during the fall!

My first impression when it came to moving across the world to South Korea, a country that never would have crossed my mind when someone asked me places i’d like to visit, I was terrified. It definitely took some time for me to get excited about moving to Korea- but once I viewed it as a way for my husband & I to really grow together because we knew we would only have each other to rely on for a while AND the fact that we’d have this huge adventure we otherwise would never have- I felt better about it. You can do anything for a year! It changed a lot when we got here and were able to start exploring things. I’m really grateful we had this as our first duty station because our marriage is so much stronger because of this challenge, & i’ve gotten to live across the world; not many people get that chance.

What was the weather like here?

Very hot summers, GORGEOUS falls, and freezing winters. The fall in Korea is next level beautiful. There are so many trees everywhere and so many beautiful hikes you can go on that are in the middle of them- it was truly like no other fall i'd ever seen before. Fall is the best in Korea!

Did you live on or off post?

We lived off post right outside the walk-in gate. There are quite a few differences between American and Korean apartments and homes. Check out my vlog for our apartment tour.

Food & Drinks

Do you have a favorite date night spot?

The first place we went out to eat at in Korea was "Hwa Hwa's" which is a classic Korean BBQ restaurant close to the pedestrian "walk in" gate at Humphreys. It is much like all the rest of the bbq places! You really can't go wrong with any Korean BBQ. If you are looking for a FANCY place, the most popular place by FAR is called "Forrest N Table" and it is located in Cheonan which is less than an hour away from Camp Humphreys. You can make a reservation in advance (I recommend this, because they speak English just fine over the phone!)

Forest N’ Table

Where can I get my coffee fix?

Ten Dogs cafe with such a gorgeous entrance.

This is a TOUGH question but I will go with the ones that are close to the base which makes it easier! I love Hands Coffee which is about 10 minutes or less from base depending which side you live on. Ten Dogs is also a favorite and it is the same, only about 10 minutes depending on where you’re coming from. They both have 2 levels, gorgeous decor, and delicious drinks. To check out a FULL list of my favorite coffee shops near base, click here!

Are there any good places for brunch?

La Plush has red velvet chicken and waffles and you can walk there from the pedestrian walk-in gate of Humphreys. Need I say more? It is also very "instagrammable" if that matters to you!

Any other restaurants we should know about?

The restaurants that are located on post include Texas Roadhouse, Vatos Tacos, Maple Tree House, and Paulie's Pizza. We ordered takeout from Sam’s Sushi ALL THE TIME, we could walk their from the pedestrian gate. If you are wanting to order food, there isn’t Uber Eats. It is called “Shuttle” here in Korea!

  • Korean BBQ places near post we really liked- Hwa Hwas and Sododuk.

Things to Do…

The best way to find things to do in Korea is to check out my YouTube channel playlist: South Korea! I vlogged so much while living here.

There are so many adventures you can have in South Korea it is actually a bit overwhelming! I found myself wishing we had more time to explore here because there really is just so much to do. Here are a few suggestions below, but check out the tab “DUTY STATIONS” on this website and look under the Camp Humphreys section for ALL of my suggestions on things we did in Korea.

Are there any surrounding big cities you took weekend trips to?

Jeju Island was a long weekend trip for us! This is known as the “Hawaii of South Korea” and it is absolutely gorgeous. You take a flight since it's a little island off of the peninsula. I vlogged the whole trip here.

Any ideas for people who have kiddos or families? What are some activities they can do, parks they can visit, etc?

There is a park really close to base called Naeri Park which is a great place to go on a walk or enjoy the playgrounds! You can also take pets to certain coffee shops near post like Cafe Humphreys and Ten Dogs! They also have the famous “pink grass” here when it is in season.
